ABOUT US
We are an independent brewery based in the ‘Historic Heart of Kent’s Hop Growing Area’, supplying cask conditioned ales to Pubs and Clubs throughout Kent and also South East London, and Eastern parts of Sussex and Surrey.
Established in 2010, we produce a wide range of distinctive real ales in cask and a small range of keg ales. We use only malted barley, leaf hops (predominately Kentish) and yeast.
Our ales are brewed with a live yeast that originates from the Barclay Perkins brewery of Southwark, south east London, which we think provides individual character.
Our regular cask conditioned ales are all clearly differentiated and our range offers a choice of lighter, darker, hoppy, malty, weaker and stronger ales

REGULAR CASK ALES
We offer a wide range of nine regularly available cask conditioned ales, and aim to have at least seven of these available at any time. Our regular cask ales are available in 9 gallon firkins, 4.5 gallon pins and 5 litre mini casks. Our regular cask conditioned ales are all clearly differentiated with a mix of ABV’s, and styles - dark or light, hoppy or malty, or even a bit of both.
‘GOLDEN RULE - Alc 3.5% Vol’
A crisp tasting golden ale with a caramel malt flavour. English Cascade and French Aramis hops provide a delicate floral and light citrus finish.
‘TRADITIONAL - Alc 3.6% Vol’
An easy drinking, refreshing English style ale with a light toffee maltiness. Kentish Golding and Challenger hops provide a floral and mild citrus finish.
‘COPPERNOB - Alc 3,8% Vol’
A medium dry, copper coloured ale with a biscuit and caramel maltiness. Kentish Golding, Challenger and Fuggles hops provide a robust hoppy finish.
‘COUNTRYMAN - Alc 4.0% Vol’
A Classic English style best bitter with an easy drinking, light malty body. Kentish Fuggles and Pilgrim hops provide a refreshing mild spice, herb and fruit finish.
‘RUSTIC - Alc 4.0% Vol’
A deep bronze coloured, rich tasting country ale. The scarce Kent grown Epic and classic Fuggles varieties provide a smooth, delicate spicy finish.
‘BLONDE AMBITION - Alc 4.2% Vol’
A fully flavoured, well bittered and refreshing blonde ale. Kentish Challenger and First Gold hops provide a crisp, clean tasting, spicy and citrus finish.
‘OLD CHESTNUT - Alc 4.4% Vol’
A chestnut coloured ale with a full bodied and complex malty flavour. Kentish Pilgrim and Bramling Cross hops provide a rich dark fruit and honey finish.
‘FIREBRICK RED ALE - Alc 4.5% Vol’
A full bodied ruby red ale with a rich, tangy malt taste, English Cascade and German Magnum / Hallertau hops provide a pronounced fruity finish.
‘AMERICAN PALE - Alc 5.0% Vol’
A classic, full bodied APA with a smooth malty flavour. American Chinook, Cascade and Apollo hops provide a distinctively crisp and refreshing citrus finish.
SEASONAL CASK ALES
We offer a small range of seasonal ales - a lower ABV spring / summer refreshing ale, an autumn/winter porter, and two “green hop” ales. During the hop harvesting season (late August to September), we are able to produce ales that use hops freshly picked on the day of brewing. The result is a more intensive taste and aroma that can be likened to the effect of cooking at home with herbs freshly picked from your own garden. Please buy or try while you can as the volume is very limited. Our seasonal cask ales are also available in 9 gallon firkins, 4,5 gallon pins and 5 litre mini casks.
‘TWO9 - SESSION PALE - Alc 2.9% Vol’
Our new spring/summer refresher may only be 2.9% in strength but it lacks none of the malt and hop flavours expected of a classic English style pale ale. A combination of the new English Ernest hop and the established German Mittelfruh hop provide.
‘EBONY MOON - Alc 4.2% Vol’ (OCT - FEB)
Richly flavoured, mildly bittered porter with hints of toffee, chocolate and coffee from five different malts. Kent grown Bramling Cross & Golding hops add blackcurrant notes to the flavour and a delicate aroma.
‘CAPLE PALE - Alc 4,5% Vol’
Our original “green hop” ale. Brewed with fresh Pilgrim hops, picked on the day of brewing from Reeds Farm in Capel, one of our local hop gardens. This hop provides an intense citrus and honey flavour.
KEG ALES
Keg ales have historically received rather unfavourable press, but this is not the fault of the keg system but more to do with the quality of ale that has been dispensed from kegs. Now we have a new generation of keg ales that are produced from quality malts and generous quantities of hops, and the keg system guarantees the same condition from the first to the last pint. Our keg ales are filtered and carbonated for consistent clarity and condition, and will offer even the most hardened lager drinker an alternative - but with taste!Available in disposable 30 litre kegs with a Sankey fitting and KeyKegs.
‘BLONDE BIER - Alc 4,0% Vol’
Refreshing, continental style blonde bier with a medium bitterness. French Aramis and German Mittelfruh hops add a balanced combination of light citrus and floral notes to the flavour and aroma.
‘INDIA PALE ALE - Alc 4,8% Vol’
Modern IPA with a robust flavour and a crisp medium bitter finish. Kent grown Target and Epic hops provide a delicate blend of fruit, herb and spice notes. Dry hopped with English Cascade for an extra intensity.

Unfortunately we cannot maintain a full and accurate list of where our ales are on sale at any time, as many pubs will regularly rotate guest ales, including ours. But the following is a list of those pubs and clubs that always have at least one Tonbridge Ale available at all times.

We would be delighted to supply our beer for your party, wedding or other event. Our full range is produced in 9 gallon firkins, 4.5 gallon pins and 5 litre mini casks. Whilst we try and keep the full range in stock in all formats all the time, this is not always possible. Therefore if you require a specific beer in a specific format, please give us as much notice as possible so that we can reserve your beer for you.
